AGM
Our Annual General Meeting is a chance for Making Music members to make their voice heard.

Stand to be a Making Music Trustee
As a company limited by guarantee and a charity, Making Music is governed by a Board of Trustees. Each year, a third of our elected trustees step down, creating space for new voices - ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), we are looking for new Board members.
If you’re a member of a Making Music full member group and have the support of two of your group members, you’re eligible to stand. Simply complete the nomination form below, and ask your two supporters to sign and date it. You can also share this email and encourage someone in your group to apply.
Deadline: 9am, Monday 1 June
Why stand?
Making Music is your membership association. Becoming a trustee is a direct way to ensure that members’ voices help shape the organisation’s direction and decisions.
Who are we looking for?
Anyone who is interested in influencing the strategic direction and long‑term future of Making Music is encouraged to stand.
We want our Board of Trustees to reflect the people we serve and to bring a broad mix of perspectives, skills and lived experience. Each year, we review the Board’s make‑up to identify gaps. Applications from people who meet one or more of the following criteria would help us achieve a strong and balanced Board:
- Those with a professional background in accounting or finance
- Members from instrumental or promoter groups
- People based in the East, North, North East or South West of England
- People aged 44 or under
- People with lived experience of disability or long‑term health conditions
- People identifying as part of the Global Majority*
* Global Majority is the collective term Making Music uses to describe people from ethnic groups that make up around 80% of the world’s population — including people who are Black, Asian, Brown, dual‑heritage, indigenous to the global south, and/or who have been racialised as ‘ethnic minorities’ (Campbell‑Stephens, Leeds Beckett, 2020).
What’s the commitment?
The Board sets and oversees the organisation’s strategic direction. Trustees attend:
- Three online and one in‑person Board meeting each year
- Occasional emails or short calls between meetings
- One in‑person Board away day each year
All new trustees receive an induction, as well as mentoring and ongoing support.
Want to find out more?
You’re very welcome to email us - we’re happy to answer questions by email, arrange a call or put you in touch with our Chair, Margaret Harrison.
We’re also hosting a Zoom information session on Wednesday 7 May, 5.30–6.15pm, with two current trustees sharing their experiences, alongside Making Music staff - book your place here
What happens next if I stand?
If more people stand than the Board vacancies we have for this year, there will be an election before the AGM. Those with the most votes from fellow members will be announced as new trustees at the AGM. We will upload the full details about the the board voting process, the AGM and other relevant documents in due course, so please check back on this page for more details.
When is the AGM?
The 2026 AGM will take place on 1 July. We will post more details on this page soon.
